The Covenant of Churches Together in Boscombe We the churches of Corpus Christi RC Church, Rosebery Park Baptist Church, St Andrew's Church, St Clement's Church, St George's Methodist Church, St James' Church, St John's Church, The Salvation Army and the Religious Society of Friends Acknowledge our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ revealed in the Scriptures. We recognise that past divisions have been a hindrance to the Church’s witness in our community, and we give thanks for the unity which God is already giving us, making us no longer strangers but pilgrims together. We rejoice in sharing in the rich variety of our Christian traditions, at the same time affirming our openness to this growing unity which we believe to be obedient to the word of God. We therefore commit ourselves: o To worship together in every member church o To arrange at least once every year a course of united study in groups o To make public witness to our faith at least once every year o To remain open and ready to co-operate in other united activity and outreach, as the Spirit of God may lead us o To pray for one another in separate as well as in our united activities o To maintain a committee of representatives of all member churches to enable us to fulfil these intentions We covenant to share our life as Christians as fully as we can, trying not to do separately anything that we can do better together, and to review this commitment after five years from this date. We declare that this Covenant does not weaken our ties and responsibilities to our individual churches. We do not know what form our unity may eventually take, but pray that by this Covenant we shall be led into a fuller understanding of that unity and peace which is God’s will for all people. We commend each other to the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ as we give full approval and consent to this Covenant entered into this Twenty second of January, in the year of our Lord Nineteen Hundred and Ninety- Eight. Signed and dated on behalf of participating churches on January 2nd 1998
